Summer Details

Summer Dates:

Our classes are designed to be taken as a full 8-week course.  In order to accommodate summer travel schedules, we are allowing our 8-week summer classes can be taken as a half summer or full summer.

 

1st 4 weeks:

June 3rd, June 10th, June 17th, and June 24th​

 

2nd 4 weeks:

July 8th, July 15th, July 22nd, July 29th​

 

We are closed the week of July 1st.

Little Kid Science Experiments

Ready to get messy and have some fun with science? This class will offer hands-on experiments. Students will reflect what they've learned through discussions and drawings. ​

Read with Schrager

Taught by Ms. Kaitlyn, Suggested Ages: 8+

Take turns practicing your reading skills with Service Golden Retriever Schrager! We will use our comprehension skills to do fun assignments and projects that coincide with the stories each week.

Prerequisites: Basic reading and listening skills.

Applied Math: Physics

Taught by Ms. Janice, Suggested Ages: 12+

This is a 2-hour class (10 am- 12 pm)

Use pre-algebra and algebra and apply it to physics.
Listen to the background stories that bring meaning to the mathematical expressions. This is a full STEM immersion focused on Math with hands-on experiments.

Socialize while creating beautiful pieces of art! Students can choose between a variety of topics including jewelry making, mixed media, painting, and t-shirt design!

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 5-8 

Supply Fee: $5

Hooray for a Diffendoofer class all about the books of Dr. Seuss! We will read a Dr. Seuss book in each class and work on language and creative craft skills based on ideas from the story. 
"When you try something new, there's no limit to what you can do!"

 

Glow in the Dark Art

Taught by Ms. Brittany, Suggested Ages: 7-10

Use fluorescent paints to create artwork using blacklights!

Prerequisites: Use of basic art supplies - pencil, marker, tempera paints

Conversational ASL & Deaf Culture

Taught by Ms. Kaitlyn, Suggested Ages: 8+

Practice your sign language skills in this fun, game-based class. Learn all about the growing culture of the Deaf community.  

Prerequisites: ASL 1​

Latin Languages & Music

Taught by Ms. Janice, Suggested Ages: 12+

Let's memorize structure and vocabulary of Latin languages through upbeat songs: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Open mic karaoke will be available to volunteers.

Small Group Math: Fractions

 Taught by Ms. Kathy, Suggested Ages: 10+

Work on your fraction foundations in this small group of no more than 5.  Students will practice mixed number and different denominator operations.

Prerequisites: Must be comfortable with multiplication and division facts

Crafty Cooking Art Supplies

 Taught by Ms. Brittany, Suggested Ages: 11+ 

Supply Fee: $10

Learn how to use everyday household items to create art supplies!  Students will receive a recipe each day to bring home and a few bonus recipes to keep creating at home!

Prerequisites: Use of basic kitchen supplies

Must be ok with light smells and textures.

Strategic Learning Adventures: Board Games for Brilliance

Taught by Ms. Janice, Suggested Ages: 12+

Embark on an exciting journey of scientific exploration and learning; featuring science exploration and educational board games! Our interactive sessions blend fun challenges with strategic gameplay, perfect for young minds seeking adventure and discovery. Join us for an enriching experience where science education comes alive!

Early Entrepreneurs

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 12+

Learn from local business leaders on how to become an entrepreneur and start your own company. Students will listen to speakers from various occupations and work on their independent business ideas.

Art Around the World

Taught by Ms. Brittany, Suggested Ages: 9+

Students will learn about a country each week. Lessons will include creating artwork related to the culture, famous landmarks, currency, and traditions of each country. 

Monday and Wednesday classes complement each other but not necessary to take both.

PERT Math Prep

Taught by Ms. Kathy, Suggested Ages: 12+

Learn the math necessary to pass the PERT test for Dual Enrollment. 

The class is self-paced and includes access to all videos, worksheets, and quizzes for students to use with our teacher or at home.

In each class we'll start with a story. Afterwards, we'll build, create and explore a story concept through art, engineering, math and science!​

Phonics Field Day

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 7-10

Get ready to investigate and discover what sounds we use in everyday words. Put together clues and recognize patterns to improve reading. We’ll be immersed in interactive play and phonics field day activities.

Prerequisites: Letter recognition and letter sounds.

Caine's Arcade STEM

Taught by Ms. Brittany & Ms. Sara, Ages: 8+

Supply Fee: $15

This is a 2-hour class (10 am- 12 pm)

Watch the inspiring story of Caine Monroy and create your own arcade project! Use your imagination, creativity and engineering skills to plan, experiment, and build your own favorite arcade game out of cardboard and other recyclables.

Prerequisites: Ability to plan a design and use imagination to create a functioning arcade game with some assistance.

*This is hands-on only, not a digital arcade.

Nerd-dom

Taught by Ms. Kaitlyn, Suggested Ages: 10+

Learning about a different "Nerdy" thing each week: Pokémon, Star Wars, D&D, Percy Jackson, Legos, and a variety of books and games.

Early math concepts will be introduced/reviewed in a hands on, fun filled way! We'll tackle the basics of counting, number recognition, patterns, shapes and will move into some basic addition.

We will be going through different sign categories and topics: Animals (ocean, farm and pet, African/desert, etc.), Food (basics, ordering out, special holidays), Greetings & Salutations, Around the House, School, etc.

Prerequisites: English - Letter and Number recognition

Guitar 101

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 5+

Did you know that learning to play an instrument as a child will help the brain grow? Join our guitar for beginners class to start your journey on learning how to play and read music. Students will work on playing simple melodies and as their fingers strengthen, learn to play chords! Let's rock!

Minecraft Ed: Summer Build Challenge

Taught by Ms. Amber, Suggested Ages: 8+

Each week, our Minecrafters will be presented with a build challenge. Challenges will either be completed individually or in pairs depending on the week. We will work our way to community build challenges where the whole class will work together on large scale build challenge. Teamwork!

History of Sports

Taught by Ms. Sara, Suggested Ages: 8+

Dive into the rich tapestry of human athleticism.  Taught by Ms. Kathy, Suggested Ages: 10+

Work on your integer (negative number) foundations in this small group of no more than 5.  Students will build a strong understanding of what numbers are and how to do each operation and apply it to the order of operations (PEMDAS).

Prerequisites: Must be comfortable with multiplication and division facts

Creating with Canva

 Taught by Ms. Amber, Suggested Ages: 11+

In this class, we'll use the website Canva to learn about graphic design and marketing. While learning the features of the site and products that can be made, students will work their way through marketing design projects.

Prerequisites: Must be able to read independently

Creative Writing, Improv, and Storytelling

Taught by Ms. Kaitlyn, Suggested Ages: 12+

Everything stories- whether you like to Vlog, read, write articles, listen to podcasts and audibles, watch movies, create music or plays, this is the class for you! We want to hear your story, in the way that only you can tell it best.  Must be willing to create, share, and participate.

Prerequisites: Must be able to read and write independently

Show Choir: Annie

Taught by Ms. Leslie, Suggested Ages: 5+

This group meets on Tuesday & Thursday only in June

Supply Fee: $20

In this vibrant show choir class, students will immerse themselves in the timeless songs of Annie, combining the joy of singing with the excitement of dance. We will learn a short medley that includes the iconic tunes like "Tomorrow" to the toe-tapping numbers such as "It's a Hard-Knock Life," students will learn to project their voices while learning fundamentals of choreography. This class cultivates confidence, teamwork, and artistic expression as students journey through the enchanting world of musical theater.

Learn the math necessary to pass the PERT test for Dual Enrollment.

Little Learners Tinkering Lab 

Taught by Ms. Amber, Suggested Ages: 5-8

Students will be given a variety of materials to design, build and tinker to their hearts content! Some weeks will have a themed build, others will be open. Building and tinkering helps our little learners with spatial awareness, hand eye coordination, creativity and critical thinking.

Multiplication Madness

Taught by Ms. Sara, Suggested Ages: 8-10

Games, activities, and songs to memorize your multiplication facts!

Prerequisites: Should know what multiplication is and be comfortable with addition and subtraction facts.

Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Beasts

Taught by Ms. Jenn, Suggested Ages: 7+

Take a dive into the past and learn about some of these fascinating creatures that lived before us. Each class we will look at a few different creatures from a certain time period and talk about fossils and extinction events.

Prerequisites: Must be able to read and write independently

Adulting: Around the House

Taught by Ms. Jasmine, Suggested Ages: 12+

Learn skills that you need to be an adult in your own house! Learn how properly clean appliances, sew buttons, fold fitted sheets and more!  Homework will include practicing at home.

Women's Lit

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 12+

Study works and passages by some of literature's great women writers such as Lois Lowry, Malala Yousafzai, Sylvia Plath, and Emily Dickinson.

The summer Olympics are almost here! We'll use the Olympics as a springboard to learn about the history and culture of the games and the participating countries. We'll look at their food, their language, and their geography.

A great way to prevent forgetting what you have learned this Spring in ASL 1 and 2.  Every week we will meet and play games using ASL and learn new signs through osmosis.

Prerequisites: ASL 1 or 2.  Basic knowledge of ASL, fingerspelling, and the ability to sign short sentences.

Women in STEM

Taught by Ms. Jasmine, Suggested Ages: 7+

We are going to prepare our future leaders by highlighting some of the women who shaped history in STEM! Who are they? What did they do to make their mark? Let's have fun studying their lives!

Guitar 102

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 8+

Continue building on your basic guitar knowledge. Students will work on playing simple melodies, chords, and transitioning from one chord to another! Let's rock!

Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities: 
Join Sophie on her adventures into a hidden magical world in the upper/middle grade fantasy series Keeper of the Lost Cities! The series offers rich themes such as friendship, identity, belonging and individuality. Both thought provoking and entertaining, the students will have ample opportunities for in-depth discussions. Note: This is book one of nine and the series will have a new release this year- prepare to have an excited student!

Babysitting Basics

Welcome to the Basics of Babysitting class! In this course, we'll cover essential skills and knowledge to help you become a confident and responsible babysitter.

Learn all about shapes with Ms. Sara this summer! We'll be finding shapes in the real world, creating art using only shapes, going on shape hunts, and so much more!

Osmo Academics

Taught by Ms. Brittany, Suggested Ages: 7-10 

Supply Fee: $10

Students will utilize the Osmo device and accessories with a tablet to practice Literacy, Math, Coding, Science, Drawing and Geography. This system supports students use of hands-on learning games in which players use objects in the real world to interact with the digital world shown on their tablets.

Myths Through the Ages

Taught by Ms. Erica, Suggested Ages: 8+

Come together to learn about myths and folklore. We will learn about Greek and Roman gods, cryptozoology (the study of legendary creatures like the Yeti and Loch Ness monster), and folk tales throughout time such as the Brothers Grimm and Arabian Nights.

Read through a popular series that you've been wanting to check out or learn something new in book club! Students will be expected to read for homework so class can be spent discussing concepts and themes from the story.  Some of the books we'll be picking from are: The BFG, A wrinkle in Time, The Wednesday Wars, Narnia, and the Percy Jackson Series.

College & Career Readiness

Students will create their own profile and research jobs/careers that may be of interest to them. The initial interest inventory will allow students to view interviews with professionals in each field they have the most matches with and explore financial literacy. Students will use a variety of tools to determine if their career interest would allow them to maintain a lifestyle they would enjoy. Family engagement information will be sent home each week to provide helpful conversation topics and tips to help scholars navigate their path to college and career readiness.

Prerequisites: Use of laptop, 3rd - 4th grade reading level and comprehension

Have fun playing board games while making friends!

Small Group Math: Decimals

 Taught by Ms. Kathy, Suggested Ages: 10+

Learn all about decimals in this small group of no more than 5.  Students will practice their multi-digit operations with decimals and practice important skills like rounding and real-life applications.

Prerequisites: Must be comfortable with math facts and familiar with multi-digit operations. â€‹

Earth, Space, Science, & Science Fiction Debate

 Taught by Ms. Janice, Suggested Ages: 12+

Let's discuss geography, geology, space travel, philosophy and science through science fiction. We will watch episodes together, popcorn included. Warning: the teacher is a Trekker, Star Trek episodes will be mandatory.

Dungeons and Dragons

Taught by Steven & Ms. Kaitlyn, Suggested Ages: 12+

Collaborative storytelling and improv.  Teamwork, monsters and math, Oh my!  Snacks a must.  Learn the basics of DnD through a homebrew campaign and one shots.  Adventurers welcome.
